Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-09-18. ChipSentiment is operated from Australia and handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
We collect as little as possible. There is no account system and we do not sell personal information. Our own analytics are cookieless and aggregate. We do serve third-party advertising, and those advertisers set their own cookies - that part is explained below.
What we collect
If you join the newsletter
Your email address, and the date you subscribed. That is all. It is stored with our email provider and used only to send the newsletter you asked for. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing deletes the address.
When you browse
Aggregate analytics: which pages are viewed, rough country, referring site, device type. This is collected without cookies and without any identifier that can be traced back to you. We cannot single out an individual visitor and neither can our analytics provider.
Our analytics provider is Ahrefs Web Analytics. Loading any page contacts their servers, which receive your IP address and the page you are viewing; the IP is used to derive an approximate country and is not stored against you. They set no cookies and assign no persistent identifier. That processing is theirs, under their privacy policy, and we receive only aggregate reports.
We also record aggregate counts of certain interactions - for example how many people clicked through to a broker, and for which stock. These counts are not linked to an identity.
Server logs
Our host retains standard technical logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention. We do not use these logs for analytics or marketing.
Advertising
We show advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and may use them to show you ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google receives your IP address and details of the pages you view here. That processing is Google's, under Google's privacy policy, not ours - we never receive the personal information involved, only aggregate earnings reports.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or through the industry opt-out tools at youradchoices.com and youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
We do not give advertisers your email address, and subscribing to the newsletter has no effect on the advertising you see.
Charts embedded in articles
Some articles embed price charts supplied by TradingView. Loading one of those charts contacts TradingView's servers, and TradingView may set its own storage on your device and receive your IP address and the page you are viewing. That is their processing, under their privacy policy, not ours, and we receive nothing from it.
Pages without an embedded chart do not contact TradingView at all. Everything else on this site remains cookieless.
What we never collect
No brokerage credentials, no bank or payment details, no portfolio holdings, no identity documents. ChipSentiment does not connect to your brokerage account and cannot see your positions. Any site or email claiming otherwise on our behalf is not us.
Who your information is shared with
Only the service providers needed to run the site: our hosting and content-delivery provider, our email provider if you subscribe, and our analytics provider. Market data and news providers receive requests from our servers, not from you, and are never sent your personal information.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with brokers or advertisers. When you click a partner link, the broker sees that the visit came from ChipSentiment; they do not receive anything about you from us beyond that.
Overseas storage
Our providers operate globally, so information may be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are subscribed, deletion is immediate via the unsubscribe link. For anything else, or to make a complaint about how we have handled your information, contact us at the address below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and we keep the personal information we hold to a minimum, which is the most effective protection available. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, tell subscribers by email.
